1903 NRA Sporter
Have serial # 1344695. Barrel date 2-30, with star guage. Everything looks correct on the rifle. Can anyone check the SRS data, to see if this is a confirmed NRA sporter.
Much appreciated. Bill

The stock looks correct, with front band, and metal buttplate. Has a stamped "P" on pistol grip. Rounded edge on front of the reciever. Has a lyman 48 sight. No other holes for other sights. Bolt is N.S., with serial on it. From brophys book, it looks correct. Just wanted to see if it had a hit.

I submitted a subscription to the Springfield Research Service. And submitted the serial to them. But was hoping one of you, had one of the books, to see if it had a hit.
Thank you.

I havent disassembled the rifle, to see if there is a star number marked on the barrel. Should there be any other markings, on other parts of the rifle. Were any internal parts marked, such as the firing pin, or any others?

So your sporter is not a hit. However it’s an grouping heavy in NRA sporters.

Disassembled rifle. The inletting for the lyman 48 sight, is machine done, very precise. The sight is a 48s, with 1911 patent markings. Flip up front peep.
Has a lyman 17 front sight installed.
On bottom of barrel it is stamped a 1 over a number 71. It has a star gauge mark at the 6 oclock position on the muzzle. Does anyone know what the 1 over 71 means.
Thank you

Jim, Thank you for the dcm info. Serial falls right in the middle. Wow.
I dont think its a put together rifle, but also dont have a explanation, other than it wasnt sold to a NRA member. Dont know.
The 1 over 71 number on the bottom of the barrel, is a mystery to me. It doesnt follow what I have seen in other common star gauge codes.
