I can not speak for everyone - but soldiers were always particular about cleaning their own rifles and nor mixing
the parts up with other rifles - such as so called cleaning were all the bolts are put in one pile, op rods in other
pile and so forth - when I was in service

Yes...we never did that either. You are responsible for your own rifle. When I went through basic, I never developed the knack to spit shine shoes. I could however clean a rifle spotless from before my enlistment, so I'd come to find my footwear gone and five rifles piled on my bed. I still did them individually and returned them as such. Too, if there was an issue on inspection the training NCO came over to me to climb on...only right I guess. It was kind of humorous at the time too.
We have had testimony of others here that swear they were a party to such mixed cleaning groups.

They (The rifles) are all individuals I guess Jim may come from the same factory but they are fine tuned so the parts fit and operate in that rifle and taking a bolt from one rifle may not operate in your weapon.
For boots Jim I learnt the Duntroon method of shining boots (In the cadets) I had mirror toe caps and heels on my hobnail boots it was allot of work but awesome to look at.
