Model 1899 Krag

I recently acquired this Krag carbine. The receiver is marked Model 1899, barrel is 22” long and was turned down at the muzzle for a 1903 front sight. There are no cartouches on the stock that I can find, and the forend was not cut down (no plug in the end). The buttstock has 3 cleaning rod holes present. It also has a 1901 sight, but I cannot find a “c” stamped on it. Serial number is 280510. What do I have, and is there a SRS available? Thanks in advance!

SRS #1 has no numbers even close to it. Nice early cocking piece. Looks like a rifle cut down and a carbine stock. Here's mine...

Mine looks like it may have been a VFW post piece at one time and used for funerals and blank ammo...the bore would eat a jacket bullet and not even burp. The rest was enough for me to at least claim to have a carbine. I'll bet your bore is good or better? That's usually why these things were converted, carry and shoot easy when they were a common milsurp...

OP's Krag model 1899 receiver, #280510, would have been originally assembled as a carbine.

It is from a serial number range that was manufactured when the 'knobless - striker' was being manufactured, as an economy move.
This receiver was likely manufactured in August or September, 1900.

Your stock is a model 1899 carbine stock.
If there is no cartouche, it could have been a 'spare' replacement stock.

Also, it could have been scraped during refurbishing and the cartouche 'removed.

The barrel is probably a shortened Krag rifle barrel, that someone used to replace a rough carbine barrel. It also could be an altered 1903 barrel.

The 1901 rear-sight is a rifle sight with the leaf calibrated to '20', (for 2,000 yards).
The carbine model 1901 sight-leaf was calibrated to '23'.

You have a rather nice 'parts' Krag that should be a good looking and fun shooter.
