They're shooting both. Middle man, you can see the shell leaving the rifle. Both riflemen have dust moving up in front of the muzzles.
Maybe frontman's shell is about 10 cm over the rifle? Not sure... Might be earth on the background.

Yes, far too small for the 106mm and too much for the little one. I'd love to find a cartridge for one of those...dewat of course.

Sergeant Reckless, a decorated war horse serving with a US Marine Corps recoilless rifle platoon in the Korean War, stands beside a 75mm recoilless rifle
It Seems long to me for a recoilless rifle case - I always thought it was a coincidence Rangefinder given the symmetry of the case. could not find an image of a recoilless rifle case and all the field photos show them uncased. Maybe an M40 recoilless rifle

Turns out it's the M123 case for the 57mm recoiless. Thing is, someone here has the book on this little recoiless and is hiding it.

If it's for the 57mm then it's the M18. The M40 is the 106mm and the M20 is the 75mm. The 57mm is like the baby of the family. Like every step up in size doubles the weight.
