Interesting - I don't remember ever seeing a 2-groove .22rf barrel.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

I like those full size rifles in .22, they shoot like a dream. Nice...

Guessing that the two groove rimfire barrels are exclusive to the RFI No.2Mk.IV* trainers. I had a very nice one several years ago that now resides in a collection in Nebraska. I was also intrigued by the two groove barrel which I'd never seen before in a rimfire barrel.

I went to the range this morning with my N°2 and I counted 8 grooves when I cleaned it.

This one has a two-groove barrel and a ladder sight grafted on. Converted in 1962 at workshop number 502.

Interesting.
So we have three (the third is this: https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=75200) Indian trainers with a two-groove barrels. All are post WW II.
Robert Edwards in his "India's Enfields" states: ". . . . it was not until WW II that any significant numbers were produced and not until the early 1950's that Ishapore began production of a purpose-built .22 caliber trainer." . . . . "For rifles converted during the period 1941-1951, markins are: "SHT 22" and "IV*" in two lines on the right buttsocket and "R.F.I." and date of conversion on the left buttsochet. For new production after 1951, the markin are: Ashoka, "R.F.I", date, "Rifle No. 2", "Mk 4*" in five lines . . . . Barrel are new production 5 groove made from No. 1 Mk 3* blanks.".
Something is wrong, seems to me.
