    Something to think about

My year's time as being a Contributing Member to this site is coming to an end, so today I renewed my donation.

Maybe some of us don't know about being able to contribute? I know it is not asked of us or even solicited. But by doing so it helps keep the site up and running for our viewing pleasure.

I can understand that drop in viewers would not be interested. But what I have a hard time understanding is why all of us regulars who like to frequent this site are not contributing members. If it went away, some of us might have withdrawals. Look at the post numbers next to peoples names. And you know we read many more threads then we make posts. This site is informative and at the same time a lot of fun. It also allows me to meet others with like interests.

It doesn't have to be much. $25 for a single year or $20 if you choose to do multiple years. At $25 that comes out to be less then 7¢ a day. If someone chooses 2 years at $40 that is only 5.5¢ a day. Some folks donate their time instead of financial support. And I mean a lot of time. If I take into account all of the different forums that I read, Carbine, Edged Weapons, Watering Hole, and the WTS/WTB pages, I visit a lot of threads. Just learning about who the bogus parts makers are so as not to buy from them has saved people more then what a contribution might be. I found out about a show I want to attend. Met people from other states. And sometimes get a laugh or a cringe out of the bickering.

My thanks go out to the Administrator for making this round the clock site available to me for only 7¢ a day.

    Jim

Thanks Jim. A important message well said.

I believe there is no free lunch in life. I think the same applies here. I had seen the "Contributing Member" bar displayed on some members, but had no idea what in meant until one day I looked through the website. When I found out what it was. I was glad to contribute, I felt in was my responsibility.

Another way to look at it; It's like buying another carbine book or a magazine subscription.

    John,

I know there are some who are on a fixed income, and maybe do not have any extra funds they can contribute. If you look at peoples profiles, some list birthdays. There are a lot of us in the 50/70 year old range. Many are veterans or family members of veterans. I have just retired myself.

Like you said, this can be looked at as another source to help you make some purchases. A cheap investment if you consider it that way. Many ask before, some after about a purchase.

There are also advantages to contributing. One is you don't get all the adds. I like that. But you also can load all the pictures you want, put more adds in the Quartermaster stores, delete your own posts, more storage for messages, an icon to see where others are from. Some of these are helpful, some are just interesting. But they are included.

Like you, I believe in trying to support my interests. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. At over $4.00 a gallon it is less then 6 gallons of gas a year. I know I spend way more then that driving to shows and my local gun stores.

I just see it as a way of helping out.

    Jim,

I was only trying to explain why I was compelled to contribute. I applogize if it came aross that I think everyone else should too.

This is a great hobby and this forum is a great source for information that has helped me several times.

    John,

I didn't think that at all. I must have come off goofy. Just that I understand how some are not able, and volunteer their time instead. Which to me is more valuable then my small monitary contribution.

My thoughts are that I want to make sure it stays running so we have a place to visit and enjoy. I check the forums almost every day.

Same as you, I have learned stuff I didn't know, and I have been into Carbines and Knives for 30+ years. Books are great, but first hand knowledge from others is another big source of information. That is what we get here.

Time to get off my box.

    Jim
