PPCo Mounts
Recently took receipt of a small quantity of high quality reproductions of the very rare aldis/PPCo claw mounts. These were clearly inspired by the P14/Patt 18 mounts (or maybe vice versa??), & date from 1918/19. The lineage is obvious, & although my original set is unmarked a friend has a set marked 'Periscopic Prism Co London 1919.' I only know of the existence of 3 or 4 sets or part sets extant....a rarity indeed. The P'14 variation is far more common.

I managed to relieve the originals from an esteemed Bisley-based gunsmiths (!) many years ago. There was a set of William Evans bases in the same 'tat' box. Oh! Happy Days! Thought some of you guys out there are as 'anoracky' as me & might be interested in seeing another WW1 sniping mount system.

Very interesting Roger. I wonder how they got around clearing the bolt way with that 'lip' on the rear base? Was it just used to hold the base while being fitted and then filed off, do you think?
Quite a bit higher than they really need to be, aren't they?
Fitting had to be much more accurate and therefore more time consuming and expensive with no means of adjustment for collimation in the mounts.
Very nice work by somebody!

They look excellent, a credit to the maker.
Will you have a set with you next time at the International ? I know someone who may be interested in a set, and even better if your doing a buy one, get one free offer.

Yes, the lip. As you can see, I've just held the mounts roughly in place on the receiver for illustrative purposes. It looks the same type of arrangement as on the aldis/purdey rear base: the receiver is 'nicked' to create a corresponding angled slot for the lip to sit in, although I'm pretty sure there will need to be a little 'trimming off'. When I get round to fitting them I'll clarify further.
Yes, I'll take a set to The International. They are well made. Fortunately the former proprietors of Charnwood Ordnance were very helpful to me in giving me an intro to the chap who used to do all their work.

old scope site
Just thought I'd drop in this site about classic brit sniper scopes, probably the best presentation of them I've bumped into. I especially like the Gibbs smle sight, picture posted the link for here. (I tried to post the pics but they wouldn't work)
Go to the sites lower right corner for the index of scopes.

Hello. From memory I think my set is entirely devoid of markings (& is also in the white), but I know of a set that was marked up to 'The Periscopic Prism Company London 1919', but that was on the rear ring. I'll double check & get back to you, but feel free to pm me anyway.
Best.
