help with markings

can any one help with the following markings on the side of the rifle there are 2 cross swords, are these proof marks ? on top is a letter z and numbers 9 5 4

This marks on your South African rifle are Pressure proofmarks from Birmingham Proof House wich means ( as i know) that the barrel passed the test for nitropowder. But no idea for the Z.

The broad arrow in the "U" are the South African ownership mark as stated by gunner. The stacked rifles on the Knox Form is the commercial trade mark for BSA. The 9 54 is September 1954. the crossed "swords" are military proof marks. I do not know what the "Z" denotes
