Seller says:
Hi, I found some of my trade items, so this is now for sale. It is a BYF42, shows wartime wear and use, most metal finish on the rifle has worn, overall I would rate at good condition at best. The metal looks to have been exposed to the elements. THIS IS NOT AN RC OR YUGO CAPTURE
K98
, NOTHING IS PEENED OR RESERIALED HERE. It needs a new extractor put on, there is a small screwhole on the stock where the sling keeper sits (likely to hold a different type of sling), and may have seen a coat of varnish. It is all matching except the bolt, reportedly a bringback but I have no documentation of this. If you are looking for mint, this is not it, but if you want an original non captured and matching piece minus bolt, here you go. I was going to deactivate this for display, but decided to leave it alone. $600 shipped or trade for an

I've pm'd him for more info:
1) Are there any WaA's on the trigger guard? It looks like no in the pics...?
2) It the trigger guard standing proud of the wood at the front of the bow due to over-sanding? Hard to tell in the pics.
3) Are any stock WaA or Heer cartouches still visible on the butt?
4) Have the bands been blasted and refinished? Hard to tell from the lighting?
5) what's the bore like?
6) Does it come with the sling?
7) does the bolt match itself?

update with answers:
Hi XXX, thanks fo the pm, this is on hold for a trade. To answer your questions:
1( good catch on the Waa's...they are also missing on the right side of the reciever. I posted this question myself when I first got the k98 on another forum, was told that byf in 1942, for whatever reason, had a 6 month period or so where they did not proof certain parts. It is actually quite interesting, and I will try and find the link.
2)I do not believe the stok has been resanded, if so VERY lightly. However as stated, it does hold a coat or two of postwar varnish.
3)both the serial number and the WaA are visible on the butt under the varnish. My poor camera skills and flash do hide this.
4)all finish on the metal parts has mostly worn, it has not been refinished, but would be a good candidate for it. I did not think that it was bead blasted, moreso just left to the elements.
5)bore is good only, no pitting but dark. Never shot it.
6)comes as pictured, sling included
7)bolt needs a new extractor, cocking piece does not match bolt either.
