1944 Long Branch No. 4 Mk 1*
The serial numbers on the butt socket, . . .
(I don't know what the 51 w/symbol means - arsenal rehab. date?)
. . . bolt . . .
(Note the Long Branch stamp on the bolt handle.)
. . . and fore-stock all match:
The rear band was manufactured by C.E. Welstead:
The front band and front sight were manufactured by Singer Manufacturing:
The magazine platform and body were manufactured by W.C. Cheney & Sons Ltd:
I don't have a clue what the D below the Broad Arrow signifies or the numerals 87. Perhaps they are inspector's' marks?
(The magazine body has a serial number stamped on the bottom but it does not match the rifle.)
The bayonet was produced by Long Branch:
I haven't found any legible import marks on this rifle so I assume it was imported prior to 1968.
Any comments on the above or additional information about this rifle will be appreciated.

Thank you Gunner. I've been at it for more than 50 years. It is not as easy to find good specimens at a reasonable price as it was in the past.

Seen plenty of honest service, probably in British
service from all the UK-made parts on it.
