    9-11

I went to the store this morning, about 2 miles. And saw only 9 flags flying, that included mine.

How sad. In only 8 years people are already forgetting, or just don't care.

    Makes me sick!

People seem to have selective memory, and short ones at that.

The media is of no help either.

You're right Jim. It's too bad.

You are so correct about the media John.

I remember seeing people jumping from the inferno and holding hands as they fell to their deaths. And then watching the towers fall killing all the innocent citizens, firemen, and police inside.

The news media decided unilaterally that the images of the towers falling is too disturbing to show now. They said showing the buildings falling and people jumping to their deaths only causes continued public resentment.
(It's not 'PC' to hold a grudge you know!)

It's absurd how apathetic so many people and the media are have become about the attacks.

    It makes me sick too.

    Angry 9-11

I am a History teacher at a north St. Louis High school. The administration never mentioned it, did not do the Pledge of Allegiance, nor did they even play the National Anthem! I discussed 9-11 in every class, and even my students were surprised the school did not have so much as a moment of silence.

I mentioned that they had a right to complain to the administration, and in fact might be considered a patriotic duty. They followed my advice and did complain during lunch. At the end of the day, they announced that at the students request, they would have a moment of silence. It was actually only about 15 or 20 seconds. This surprised me that my kids (North St Louis gang kids (Crips and Bloods) had more presence of mind than the administration!

I guess I am on the administrations sh@t list now, since I embarrassed them, but oh well, but as the Germans say "Wie Schade, das tut mir Leid!" (What a pity, that makes me so sad...)

My painting crew and I were working on a Federal building here in Michigan the night of 9-10. We had to be wrapped up every morning before the employees clocked in. Job sight had to be secured per safety regs. It took the nights of 9-9 and 9-10 for the scaffold crew to set up 80+ sections for the overhead painting of a atrium that basically joins 2 seperate buildings.
When ever we have a few large lifts on a site, we commonly leave a American flag hanging from one and a POW/MIA flag from another. I made sure that at the end of the night that we had covered all the safety regs to leave the site un-attended. After my crew left I stood looking up nearly 100' in the air at both those flags hanging there, that along with the silence and seeing all the Federal plaques and things gave me a proud feeling. I thought to myself...wait til these workers come in this morning and see our memorial. Surely being the day of 9-11 they'd have something special going on.......I'll admit my eyes watered. I thought back to the day of the tragedy and remembered basically doing a very similiar job when I heard over the radio that the first plane had hit. We were near our state capitol building and seen the police circling the building. We were asked to leave. This picture below is a number of them stacked to show the height of that job....taken the day after.

As I got in my truck heading home early the morning of 9-11-09 I felt proud about the flags I knew we had left hanging. I thought back to seeing my crew down on the lower levels pulling off their hard hats and circled up. They weren't staring up but looking to the floor. Don't know why, but this I'll remember the rest of my life. After getting home and showered I received a call from the job site super, he was catching hell about the flags we had up from the big wigs at that Federal building. He told me....we were to remove these immediately. There were complaints coming from employees. When asked what the problem was I was told those employess had taken offense to a 'POLITICAL STATEMENT'. Knowing I had the lifts' baskets locked in the full up position and the keys in my pocket, I told him I was on my way. Then shut off my phone. Upon arriving the next evening I had a $1000 fine posted on one of my gang boxes. I was being fined by OSHA for leaving the lifts in the up right positions....It's common to leave them up with costly tools like sprayers etc safely out of a robbers reach. The evening shift on 9-11-09 I dropped the 2 flags at mid night.

    And the fine?
    I paid it.
In a show of pride my crew had taken up a collection and gathered exactly $1000. This 'JESTURE' with the flags hit my pocket, but I can live with that. Hell I'll write it off.
But it was the $1000 my crew gathered up that gave me new hope.
That money was passed on to The Wounded Warrior Project.

    Remember 9-11 ?
Come on.....most in this country go about their day not giving a glancing thought to our troops and allies keeping us here at home safe. It is a strange country we live in this day. I fear for my children and the future of all. But we have to remember those who speak and show action only when needed.
    We need you now.

    Sorry about the long thread,

    Regards

Charlie, I was going to post a short story about my small flag at the entrance to our Cul-de-sac after 9-11-01, but your experience at a government building tells us much more about our country as it is now.

I fear that we're in trouble.

We are in trouble. I moved to Southern Illinois from Kalifornia. It is better here, at least in the southern half of the state. (God only knows what it is like in Kook Kounty, Blago-Land) Once you go into St Louis, or the Illinois side in the East Metro area, the liberal University mentality takes over (SIU-E and SIU-C)

As a History teacher, I draw parallels to the Roman Empire in the Third Century AD. 40% of the population of Rome "on the Dole", subcontracting defense to Barbarian tribes, etc. The list goes on and on....
