My New SA Service Special M-1
I finally got one of these. The NS had 30-40 5.4s like this one today. There were also about 6 5.8s. I thought they were supposed to have original finish, but they look re-parked to me, and the finish on this rifle matches a CMP
Special I have. which is advertised as being re-parked. CMP stock has some kind of marking in the channel. The bore and chamber are bright, MW is UNDER 0, TE is 2. There is a ring(only shows up with flash pic.) around the barrel near the muzzle, and the lock is plumb colored. I'm looking forward to shooting this rifle!

That's nice ...
I was down at the South Store and they had quite a number of rifles that were like that too - what looked like all straight metal that was near new with only new wood. Some had a part or two that was out of place but there was also quite a few reparks as well and you could compare them to each other - those late SA's are so dark and there are so many that are so nice that it is easy to think they have been redone, but the Greeks had a shiny black park while the original stuff is flat.
I tell ya, a trip to either store for an afternoon is an education of which you should try to take advantage - you can see more in an hour at either place than you can at a year or two worth of searching at gunshows. Just be prepared - super nice people that are more than ready to abuse your credit card at a moment's notice, and with a smile ...
Nice rifle. Congrats.

Here's why I'm concerned-these are pics. of receivers of three SAs. All taken under the same lighting. The SA field grade has clear tool marks, and the finish is real smooth. The other two have a gritty finish, and the SA Special is definitely a repark, and almost the same color as the Service Special. receivers pictures by Charlie59_photos - Photobucket
