Dont know for sure, but I dont think so. There is available, a scope mount that threads into the original peep sight mount holes. No drill and tap required. As I understand it, it will accept any scope including center fire scopes. I like those old Mossbergs too.

I bought mine from the CMP
and it was drilled and tapped. So can I asume it came that way from the Mossberg factory? Thanks.

I have to say that I am so tired of shameless plugs for "Joe-joe parks the best Tanker Garand
on the planet when he isnt drunk, and bubba makes the best processed brass for ten bucks a thousand shipping paid both ways".
I really dont want to be confused with one of the above clowns, but if you have an old Mossberg GI rifle, you should check out Havlin.com
I dont work for them, and they dont work for me. I could care less if they sell one part, or ten thousand parts. They offer a scope mount that mounts to the factory peep sight holes.
They are reasonable in price, but what po's me is that they are out of magazines due to a production facility relocation. OK fine. But why does Brownells sell them for cheaper? And have magazines in stock?
Not to seem picking on Havlin, they do sell some very hard parts to find at very, below market prices, as on flea bay etc.
Before you do a "bubba" on your old Mossy and break out the Dewalt Home Depot cordless drill, check them out. Your mileage may vary. I am not the EPA.

The going price now on orginal Springfield 1922M2 magazine (the 1922M11 takes a 1922M2 mag-a 1922M1 will not work) is 125.00 and maybe plus that somewhat. I have found the after market ones don't work at lest for me they don't. A good magazine dealer can find you a orginal but they are pricey.

I think there is a little confusion here on the diference between the Mossberg 44US and the 44US(a) rifles. I have one of each and the 44US #106040 is not drilled and tapped on the left side of the receiver but the 44US(a) is factory drilled and tapped with filler plugs that don't appear to have ever been removed. Both rifles are "US PROPERTY" marked on the barrel and receiver. My 44US(a) rifle is serial number 140019 and was from the government contract dated 1-31-1944.
