Butt Stock Lengths on a No1Mk3*?

I was looking at a blueprint that shows the No1Mk3* in a couple of variations and read where the butt stock could be
1:Bantam
2:Long
3:Normal
4:Short
Why all of the different sizes and how do I tell which my No1mk3* is?

If your butt stock doesn't have a "B", "S" or "L" its a "N" normal length.

The general thumb rule for proper butt stock length is when you grip the pistol grip normally the rear of the butt stock should come to the inner joint at your elbow. I need a "XL" butt stock I'm 6'2".

The butts are marked, L for long, S for short and B for Bantam. Normal stocks are usually not marked, though occasionally you may encounter one marked N.

According to Lithgow drawing A-645, #80, Stock Butt, the lengths are as follows:

Short Butt:- 12.8125" High, 12.7325" Low
Long Butt:- 13.8125" High, 13.7325" Low
Normal:- 13.3125" High, 13.2325" Low
Bantam:- No reference on that drawing (Not required for bronzed Anzacs?)

That distance is measured along the axis of the stock screw hole, by the way, and at the butt end of a finished item, is a point in space.

I love the precision down to a 10 thousandth of an inch for woodwork!

Here's a pic showing the three main lengths. The long at the top, N in the middle, and short underneath. (anyone ever seen a Bantam?) They were set about level at the action to show difference which is supposed to be 1/2" per size.

The markings S & B on the Short & Bantam butts are gone, the Short butt has had a heel repair & the Bantam came to me sanded & varnished
