1973 HXP .303 Mk7z - questions, questions...
Any idea if 1973 HXP would be boxer- or Berdan-primed. THere seem to be crimps holding the primer in place, but that is all I can see. I know the the "z" suffix means nitrocellulose. I have just been handed 2 crates (2496 rounds) of this ammo, and I would like to know a little more about it.

It's Berdan primed, if it's the same stuff we got in Canada
about 10 years ago. Darn good ammunition to. Non corrosive as well.
It's to bad our government agencies won't let it into Canada.

I have lots from 1975 and they are boxer primed.

Thanks for the correction guys. I just looked at some old cases. You are absolutely correct. The Berdan stuff was some Turkish
I picked up some where.

Thanks, guys. Now all I need to do is find someone who wants to buy a few boxes (too many bills, too little time....lol)

People will be queuing up to buy it. Not only is it really good stuff but the cases make excellent reloading fodder.
The 'staking' of the primer is because it was built to British
military spec. for use by the cadets. (After the MoD sold off all the .303 as 'surplus'.) The original military stuff has the primer pocket turned over slightly to hold the primer in place more securely than just relying on friction. The Greeks achieved the same effect by staking.

Well, Beerhunter, that is what I'm hoping as I feel like a duck right now - everywhere I look, there is a big bill in front of me lol. I did put up a listing at gunboards, as the crates are taking up too much room (and they are heavy - tweaked my back this morning moving one of the crates - have the Greeks heard of putting convenient handles on boxes??? Cradle of modern civilization, my posterior...)
