British proof mark?
Does a British
proof mark add any value to an otherwise fairly regular Carbine? Just checking....

No. I am assuming you are talking about the BNP mark. That is a proof required for all firearms exported from Great Britain
.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

It might for me.... Depending on if the mark were of WWII vintage or very shortly thereafter.. There are some M 1 Garands that were lend-lease to GB that are quite valuable... Don't know if I've ever heard of Carbines being lend lease, but I'd be surprised if the Brits didn't use them whenever they could.

Ronnie, from Jim Mock's site:
Foreign Military Assistance
The British
Empire received 25,362 M1
/M2 carbines during WWII via Lend Lease. ChadC may have a rare bird.

Has a rare bird? Not really as many many thousand were imported into the UK
,proofed and stamped with the BHP stamp before being sent on to the US and sold by Interarms.

Only if it has the British
broad arrow. I've actually seen 2 specimens. Those are the only real lend-lease carbines. The BNP markings have a date code that you can look up on-line to determine the export proof dates.

BHP, according to that link you posted, there were 3,338,861
carbines sent to other countries from WWII up til roughly 1978 . I wonder how many of them have been sent back or imported back to the US?

Philly, one of mine came from CMP
with a Greek label on the stock (call that one "my Greek Girlfriend".. LOL ) so I know that one had been to Greece and returned... that leaves just 3,338,860 left to locate...
I bet the majority of them are in Bruce's and Jim's safes!

I've looked at a lot of carbines. Never seen a Brit Proof of any kind. "Import" marked or otherwise...
