No 32 Scopes and cuts above the eye
Sorry if this is a little "off the wall".
I'm just putting together a No4(T) style rifle.
I can't find any reference to any rubber eyepiece caps having been issued or available from other sources. And I've not seen any in use.
Does this mean that there is little danger of the eyepiece of the no32 contacting the shooter during firing?
The reason I ask is that I had a couple of less than tender kisses from my Mauser 98k before I got a repro rubebr eyepiece from Robert Spielauer. Not too keen to repeat the experience with the Enfield.......
Any comments/experiences/advice or suggestions as to suppliers of suitable eyepieces welcome.
Thanks in advance
Andy

I've "never been kissed" by a No.32 scope! And I've shot them from all sorts of positions, some pretty unconventional.

Ditto, that cheek piece always got my head placement just right.

I've used No4T's and L42's once or twice and must confess to have having been whacked. It is a right of passage on the sniper courses during the familiarisation shoot with a No4T or L42. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I let my son shoot one when he went out with the snipers for a stalk one morning. It recoiled, he yelped, learned a lesson and didn't do it again but made the group photo, complete with the gashed eyebrow

Thanks Peter - I know from my Mauser "kisses" - it can be messy and it is not a lesson you forget!

I've been whacked too. I fired an L42A1 with the standard L1A1 scope in a long range match, (600 and 1000 yards slow fire prone), at Fort Gordon, Georgia many years ago. I was using the P'07 leather sling and it was getting me good. I got through my 20 shot strings and bled allot. My score was respectable too with all things considered including the fact that I'm certainly no master class shooter!

I did it giving a demo of the Hawkins lo-line shooting position. I'd done it many times but learned that with the butt plate gripped in the crook of the right elbow, the left hand had to grip the sling at the sling loop AND push it forward slightly to cushion the recoil in the crook of the elbow. Didn't do enough 'forward push' with the left grip and back it came.
Don't forget, with the Hawkins, you're looking through the scope with the head canted right over (not upright as per normal shooting.....) and got it across the top of the nose AND eyebrow, much to the delight of the snipers and their plush L96's
Ouch....................... That's not quite what I said, but it'll do..........

Did that once myself, allowing the butt to slip down below the shoulder in an unsuitable jacket for shooting. Once was enough.

I did think about getting wacked by the No32 scope but it looks to be a fairly long eye relieve.
I have been wacked by my 44 Mosin Nagant PU sniper (and still have the scar) not very pleasant.

Thanks for all the replies/different experiences. Maybe we should start a Classic Sniper Rifle Scar Club?
