mag pouch discussion
as i look over the various auction sites at mag pouches, i cant help but to wonder how many were made. i looked at war baby, and there are over 120 different manufactures of type 1 & 2 pouches. taking into consideration that there are so many and they were able to make them fast, my only guess would be 12-15 million .the other thing i noticed is how some of these knuckleheads are asking outragous prices for them, really, a used one for the beginning bid of $75 . i love a good laugh dont you. so what are they worth really???? i would say $20 max just for the fact that that they are NOT common..............lets all chime in on this ,the board seems to be dying down .thanks Brian

Brian, I think from WW2 through the time USGI contracts ended probably way more than your guess. I'm with you that some people are trying to capitalize on the carbine craze. ($75.00? that's nuts) I'm thinking average should be about $20.00 and only rare/rare somewhat more.....Frank
P.S. no the Underwood is not for sale

I have quite a few pouches Stock and Belt. Different makers and different color combination of piping and panels among the same makers. Around 1990 mint type 1 (refered to as Stock) pouches were $5/6 type 2 (refered to as Belt) pouches were $5/6. Now in my area type 1 are $25, type 2 are $10/12.

I am notified my CMP
carbine arrives tomorrow and now I will start hunting for mag pouches. A 2x stock pouch like I've seen on Tv show combat seems to be a good starting point. what is a good place to start? thanks for any info.

depends on what you are looking for...
we it all depends on what you are looking for as to those little m1-carbine pouches.
I have a few and try to buy atleast one per show.. kind of gives me something to look for..
there are total of 174 different years , colors and makers
113 of the stock type ( have 52)
61 of the belt type ( have 36)
they range in dates from 1942-1957
I am alway looking to purchase ones I do not have..
I can send an email to interested parties of all the different makes and markings in a word spreadsheet ..
I have so much "stuff" I had to get a netbook laptop to keep it all straight. I even have pics of most items for comparison at the shows I attend.
I get lots of compliments on my organized clutter

The stock pouch was designated as: Model 1942
The belt pouch was designated as : Model 1943
I have seen stock pouches in years 42, 43, and 44. Never saw a 45 and I doubt they exist.
I have had several belt pouches as early as 1943, but years ago a guy showed me another fellow's picture of a belt pouch marked 1942. I could not tell if it was legit, or a photo software production.

Bill,
I don't know if I have them anymore or sold them but there were some USMC marked 44 and 45 pouches.

(Deceased Feb 2023)
The pouches I referred to were Army Quartermaster contracts, not Navy or USMC. I would like to see the 1945 dated stock pouches. Then I might be able to look up the contract number and confirm.
The 1946 might be an ink run on the date, or it may be proper. Often 5's look like 6's and reverse. 3's look like 8's and reverse.
That too I would like to see.
If you can email me a list of those contractors, I could look each one up and possibly find their location and contract time period.
