M1A1 Stock Disassembly
I need to partially disassemble my M1A1
repro stock to get at the recoil plate screw to better fit the action. This requires removal of the very long screw that goes clear down from the top cover, through the grip, and to the bottom of the grip. Just need to know if I will encounter any problems doing this, and any tips to avoid screwing things up. Thanks.

This is no problem. There is a spring and bushing on the bottom side. I usually remove the bottom screw first,[so as not to strip theads out of grip], then remove the long screw and be careful . Remove bolt and don't move wire stock, lower piece has spring in grip. Remove cover. You can reinstall screw to hold everything in place or remove the rest of stock metal. Remember the spring. I hope this helps.
