Remington P17
I recently got remington P17, I would like if possible to know the meaning of a mark found on the barrel and receiver S over a crown under AR.

Where are they at on the barrel and receiver? It almost sounds like a British
acceptance stamp.
That would make it a P-14 in 303 Brit.
Since you are calling it a P-17 are you in the UK. The American name is the Model Of 1917.
Not trying to nip pick but the only Crown stamps I've seen are on the P-14.
How about some pics.

Canadian
property mark.
€dit: and if you look closely, you can see the R marking (for Remington) under the S on the foreend of the stock.

Your rifle is a US Model 1917 that spent at least some time in Canada
. I cannot see the marks you are asking about in the pictures.

When you blow the picture up I can't make out the marks. They are too fuzzy. Is there a serial number on the bolt handle? Any sign of red paint on the forward part of the stock?

Hi
Your rifle was test-proofed in France
. Crowned AR punch is the Paris Proof House marking for long-barrelled rifled arms.

Regards
J.
