First Post and Carbine
Hello all! I picked up a nice 3.05 mil Inland with a low cut Inland stock. It looks to be otherwise original and correct. I thought the type V slide might not be original according to "the book" in spite of how nicely matched the finish is. After reading this board however, it appears that it might be original since it does not have the drawing number. Could it be that the stock is original? It has the ord wheel on the RH side and HI in the sling well. If not, what would the price difference be between a low cut and high cut stock in the same condition? Thanks and I really appreciate these boards.
Regards,
vern

Congrats! Unless your source is Carbine Club Newsletter #353, you've only scratched the surface. The 12 page article covers the 300k or so Inlands in your serial number range. According to the article, it is possible but not likely your stock is original. Does it, by any chance, have numbers stamped in ink on the inside of the stock? If so, what are they? (Don't get upset if there's nothing there; it is not all that frequent an occurence)
Sounds like you're using Riesch. He's OK as a general guide, but you'd benefit from listing all markings here to enlist the aid of members much better informed. Riesch continues to publsih updated editions, but fails to correct well known errors.

I suggest you refer to carbine club newsletter #353, which is a report on the second Inland Block 2912520-3212519. It looks like Saginaw made the receivers from 3152520-3212519. Indications are that the majority of stocks reported were high wood oval. It does say a few low wood stocks were reported near the end of the block, but no indication of what # that is.
Report indicates that slides E379 & L379 dominated this range, with only a few reports of E169 or E279 reported , which may be reporting errors. Unclear data. three different types of L379 slides were indicated with and without increased dwell machining. No indication in the NL where the cutover was.
Reisch indicates Type 5 slides did not start until Sn 3,200,000, but he is known to have mistakes.
Welcome to the forum. I am by no means any expert, just reporting what I have seen and read.

Pictures
These are the only ones I have at the moment. I hope this works.
These are the pics from the auction site. I have not taken any pictures after I cleaned the grease and grime off of the metal parts.
I would be happy to answer any questions about makings and finish.
Thanks for the comments and advice. I'll order the CC newsletter, but in the meantime I welcome any other comments.
Regards,
vern

What is the barrel date?
Is there a P-in-a-circle stamped on the bottom of the pistol grip?
Is the stock a cut down high wood?
The H.I. marked stock will not have the ink stamp (Julian date) in the slide well.

Thanks guys. The barrel date is 11-43, there is a P in a circle on the bottom of the grip, the stock does not look cut down, and there is no ink mark.

There is a good chance it is correct. I would leave it alone. The earliest low wood stocks used by Inland appear to be those made by Hillerich and Bradsby.

Vern: I have a 3.05 Inland and it also has an 11-43 barrel. On mine, the slide stop (slot) in the receiver has a hole all the way through - I thought I read someplace that it is supposed to - but I see that yours doesn't. Maybe mine's been modifed because it was worn - not sure? Bob
