Very nice tribute. Was he from Texas? (The 36th was a Texas NG unit).

LE - He was from a small town in upstate New York. He was one of the many replacements from all over the country sent to the 36th. He was with them from 10/44 - 1/2/45 (KIA), only 19 years old.

Being born an raised here in the Houston area I've seen the arrowhead patch adorning local National Guard Armories for years. In fact the 36th was reactivated in 2004. The 49th Armored Division of the Texas National Guard was redesignated the 36th Infantry Division. Found this from Wikipedia you may find interesting.

In 2005–2006, 800 Soldiers of 3d Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment, 72d Brigade, 36th Infantry Division deployed to Afghanistan for combat operations. The Battalion was attached to the 504th Infantry Regiment of the 82d Airborne Division and earned a Joint Meritorious Unit Citation.

LE - In case you are interested in a weekend trip to Austin, here is something you might be interested in. I wish I could be there, I have heard that the museum will be closing in September due to lack of state funding. My wife’s family is still in the Dallas area and we are trying to get there sometime this spring/early summer. It sad to think this rich historical resource will be lost to future generations.
Anyway check it out, and if you get to go let me know how it is.
