Thank you for your time and help.
Like many novices I bought without knowing. Now comes the "fun" part. Picked up an A3 Remington last week for 300 bucks, and been digging on the net for answers ever since. Straight stock, great wood on it/been arsnal refinished I think. Lightly see the Ordnance wheel and FJ something on left side. The letter E stamped in barrel channel.
SN tells me it was mfg in Mar 1943, barrel is Remington 8-44,figgured out it has a 03 milled buttplate and rear sling swivel, unmarked blued sling and stacking bands, everything has a little R stamped somewhere on it and that's where I get stuck with questions.
I know the buttplate and rear sling mount are wrong but the blued bolt, trigger guard, cocking piece has me guessing.
Trigger guard is unmarked, blued, straight "press mark" behind frt screw and "small bow/not angled. Is it Remington? Replacement? Thought Rem had a angled trigger bow.
Bolt is blued, scalloped safety lug,"releived"/machined around it,little punch mark and a 1 on the underside of bolt root. Remington? Replacement? Cant find a straight answer.
Cutoff is very shiny, almost polished on the underside and has a R on edge.
Backside/end knob of cocking piece looks like it's been ground on.
Just wanted to say thanks for sharing you knowledge and time to unravell the many mistories of military weapons.
I downloaded the manual from the site.Whew! At least I know how to work on it and shoot it now!
And realized it's missing the spring on the windage knob. I'm on the road at FT.Lee right now for Uncle Sam and the gun is back in Ga. So I have no pics right now. Was planning to hit a gunshow in Florence SC on the way home to look for parts and stuff.(aka more old guns)
Thanks again. Mike
