DECEASED
Why I can't sleep at night.
For sale here next month.
Lot 1500, #3744376, is or was an M2. Don't like it.
Lot 372, #104914, all metal and bore in bad condition but if I can get it cheap enough might buy it for the high wood, I cut.
Lot 1247, #5660144, might be O.K, got one close to it.
Lot 1246, #6864736, is or has been an M2, don't like it, just look at that leather and rivets.
Will be able to inspect them all closer to the day. I think #5221604 might be in the same bunch. That's all I got so far. Comments welcomed. It's all a bit of a worry. Cheers guys, Mike.Attachment 24194

Easy one Mikey - just buy all four and sleep like a (broke) baby.
Seriously, if all are even close to the same dollar amount and if 372 has authentic parts (and especially if they match each other) I'd be after it just to have it. Carbines in early configuration are really hard to come by anymore and appreciate in value even with poor barrels. I wouldn't be shooting an early correct one anyway and the bore wouldn't bother me much. If think you have enough carbines to get your shooting fix in!

The stock on the M1A1
almost appears to be a commercial stock but need more pictures to be sure.

I think the M1
A1 is a repro too but the second one looks nice. Hard to justify all four for that one but you may have to.

Mike,
I'd try the two lots you like, Lot 372, and 1247. So what if you have one close to it, give it a brother. I zoomed in and couldn't see any markings on the right side of the stocks. But they got blurry when I went from 200% to 400%
For a decent price you can always sell or trade later if you choose.

ok, Let me throw in my two cents...
Mike, first question is what do you want the carbine for? Collectability? Shooting (as if you need another one for that)? Fill a hole in your collection?
Let me throw another consideration you have that we don't here in the states. Its your gun importation law. If you do not buy them, someone else might just so they can destroy/trade for a more modern "assault" import.
In your case, you know that these will only go up in value in NZ
as they become more scarce in time. You will get anything you can put in back to you in the future. Yea, I know you are as broke as the rest of us, but you have a chance to actually save these from being chopped up.
As far as which ONE? i would say which ever ONE you think will be worth the most in the future. Your market in NZ is much different that ours here in the states.
BTW, the M1A1
(1246) is a fake stock.

Jim,
I re-sized in photoshop, as it's the best I have to zoom down without pixelating and could not see a CC but it doesn't mean there isn't one.
Here they are in order as I'd like them with the top as first choice -
372 - Highwood I-cut and early parts. If the parts are authentic I'd choose it hands down.
1274- Late parts and WWI GI stock
1500 - M2 look alike with birch M2 stock
1242 - I agree with Ed. Repro M1A1
stock and later features on rifle

Mike knows what he's looking at. I'm sure if he is interested he will look them over closely before placing a bid. He comes across some different and interesting stuff down there.
