Military 45 ACP's U.S.&S
ON the slide of U.S.&S. when was the P proof change from a hanging P to a centered P in front of the rear sight?
Thank

Johnny I appreciate your reply. I have a U.S.& S. sn. is 10753xx and the patina of the slide and frame match, so I think I will leave it alone and not chase a hanging P slide. Again thanks for your reply.

No one really knows for sure, so I would also leave it alone. The serial number range where the P proofs first show up is also very broad.

This is an example with the hanging "P" ...

Here is one in the 1.073 million range that belongs to a friend. The P is nearing the final placement.

They didn't all hang from te left side, either. I've seen several with the "P" proof right of center.
For the OP pistol, I'd be inspecting the "P" on both the slide and receiver. If they match, it doesn't matter where the "P" proof is located on the slide...just as long as it's there.
