Columbian-Madsen: Not Impressive Range Report
This bit of exquisite Danish
craftmanship is all matching, unissued, absolute mint condition; never fired until I got it. (I also have its sequentially serial-numbered twin, with matching bayonet, which will remain unfired.)
Shame on me twice: First for not taking the gun out to the range sooner, and second, for not using better ammo for its first time out. My only excuse is that I wanted to use up this POS ammo so I can reload the nice LC brass with some more accurate components.
On the target below, I had already shot 6 or 7 rounds before putting up the shoot-n-see. Those initial rounds were all over the paper, as I adjusted the elevation and windage, and established a consistent sight picture. (Yes, this bizarre rifle made in 1958 for the Columbian navy actually has a functional rear-sight windage adjustment, funky though it is). Then I shot my last five rounds and, miraculously, four of them ended up in the shoot-n-see! The missing round is way down at seven o'clock, a couple inches from the 8-ring.
Now I am inspired to get back out there with some better ammo (LC, HXP, or my own reloads) and see what the little Dane can really do.
PS: I did not shoot with the bayonet installed.
Interesting note: The bayonet s/n matches the rifle.

A. I would not have shot anyone's gunshow reloads, just pull the bullets and reuse the components.
2. That has to be one of the most beautiful rifles ever made.
III. Now that it's a used, dirty rifle, wanna sell it...cheap?

B. Ah, yes, clever suggestion, but now I have an opportunity to show improvement!

3. Agree! The fit and finish is incredible. It reminds me of fine Dansk furniture.

How about not cheap?

It's not a hideous group. Esp. considering the ammo used!

Beautiful rifle
Alamo 308,
A really beautiful rifle.
I have one as well, but not as nice looking as yours.
Like jmoore said the group is not bad considering the ammo. Mine shoots quite well when I
do my part. Not always easy, the rear sight takes some getting used to for me.
Maybe I need more practice.
I think I will take it out this weekend and see what happens.
Regards,
Chubby 308
