Reno gun show results.
Pretty average to poor gun show this time round unless you happen to like lever actions. Several overpriced No.4's, several INSANELY overpriced No.4s and a sprinkling of No.1s and 2A1a. There were three No.5 in the whole place and oddly enought all were within 20 yards of one another. I haggled one guy down by $75 for his No.5 (last day last hour) and after a rub with a cloth with BLO
/ turps and some cleaning I'm very pleased. Mint bore and all matching number W84xx, including the forend and imagazine, made in July of 1946. Couple of storage dings but that's about it. With the $75 I bought a 1916 matching No.1Mk3* (with the * lined out on the buttsocket) sporter c/w cut off and really strong rifling. A wee bit dark in the grooves but nothing 30 rounds rapid fire will not clean right out. The foresight on this on MAY be untouched and it may be refurbishable. it appears to have a ramp foresight but on close inspection it looks like a ramp shaped cover has been fitted over the orignal sight base to make it look more sportereeeish. Anyone seen this before?

Spent three days at the Reno show and had about the same results as you. Did find another nice Kollmorgan scope for $100. Didn't see a firearm of any type that I would waste a dollor on. Wife won $500 on the slots and had the good sense to take the money and run. This is the first time I have been back to Reno in several years and only went because the wife wanted to go somewhere for the weekend. After attending the Spring Tulsa show for the last five years it's hard to get excited about anything else.

Ok, next time, we meet up and hunt down the Lee-Enfields together. The show is a 15-minute drive from my house.
The only thing I bought was a pull-through....very sad.
There was a No.4 Mk. II in decent (not pristine) condition for $280, but someone snatched that up quickly. The No.5 Mk.I selling for $850 made me chuckle - and weep.

That one was down to $800 on the last day. Bore was great but it was mismatched. that was about 10 yards if that from the other two which were matched and posted at $525 on last day. There were a couple of No.4 Mk2's which wouldn't have been horribly bad purchases at about $400 but wouldn't have been good for at least a couple more years. Someone was asking $950 for what looked like a fresh out of the wrap No.4 Mk2 which again will be a good buy in several years but isn't right now.

What do you mean in a few more years? Prices go only one way, up, grab them while you can.

newcastle, you are correct. Got one just like it on a sportered SMLE. It's a poor man's ramp front sight. As I understand this was a feature of the Cogwell&Harrison sporterizing jobs back in the 1960's for sale on the U.S. market. Just drive off the front sight blade and it'll lift off. That's all that holds it on.

That is fantastic thank you. It rather looked like that was the solution but I didn't have any punches with me in Reno. Now the quetsion is are there any specific markings to confirm this is a C&H sporter - I collect sporters aswell and therefore as is it may have a place on teh wall.
