Rem MOD10A US Marked Shotgun Any Help Highly Appriciated
Wondering if someone can help me I'm trying to get an idea on a price on my Remington Mod 10a US Marked Trench Shotgun, I have not been able to locate a price guide that has any information nor a pawn shop or gun shop around Topeka,KS that is knowledgable in military rifles/shotguns. I have a email from the Remington Society verifying the serial Number. It is missing the bayonet lug, and heat shield it is currently sitting collecting dust and I'd like to either sale it or trade it.
Any help will be highly appricated pictures listed below
Thank you
Mark

It's a scarce shotgun, but without the lug and handguard, it's going to be quite reduced in price from a complete example. Hopefully the barrel has not been cut back. It has been refinished at some point as well, but it looks like most of that is gone, too.
Throw it out on one of the auction sites and take your chances. (Gunbroker, etc.) Just don't start it a price below the bottom dollar that you are willing to sell it for. A reserve type auction could be an option, but they're more annoying than sure sales. Good description and photos will help.

Oops, from your Photobucket album, it appears that the barrel has been shortened. Don't expect much action, unless there's someone really desparate to have even a tired example for restoration.

When the army did a rework program on these guns, they removed the undercut lip on the top of the barrel band. This undercut is necessary for the attachment of the handguard thin metal stamping. If this has been done on your gun, restoration to a trench gun becomes very difficult and expensive and affect its selling price. The rest of the parts are not ofen encontered.

On the bayonet lug adaptor up front, yes?
A spare handguard would be handy, mine's quite fragile at the rear. Not counting on finding one, though!

The 10 bayonet adaptor is stand alone with no connection to the wood handguard. The wood handguard has a thin sheet steel stamping riveted to the front that fits into recesses on the barrel/magazine tube band. The rear of the handguard is retained by a steel stamping that clamps it in place and is in turn held in place by two side mounted screws in the receiver.
I have two 10s that have been butched this way and an unbutched US riot gun. I have the reproduction handguard and stamping done by Redmund, but it does no good as the front is not retained by the carved up band.

The barrrel has been cut down too. That will have to also be replaced.

The drama with replacing the barrel is that it's serial numbered to the receiver. It seems hardly worth paying extra for the shotgun at this point.
I passed on an original Model 10 riot gun because of a cut back barrel last year. (Why someone had to remove 2 or 3 inches is another question...) Had considered attempting a splice job, but felt it would have been too difficult given the fully exposed barrel. Maybe, if a bayonet adaptor can be found, someone out there could do a safe splice in this case.

The cut barrel may be correct as the ARmy shortened trench gun barrels to make riot guns. CAnfield's Shotgun book is the beter than nothing reference currently available. He really doesn't show the details needed to identify real from *****.

The cut back shotgun did not have the holes for the rear handguard retaining strap, so it must have started as a riot gun, I guess. It's gone now, so it doesn't matter. It surely was tempting, though.
