Can anyone help me identify this M1 Garand Leather WWII Scabbard?

I recently acquired this with an M1icon Garand that came from a Military family. I don't know anything about it and cannot find any info on it. It has US stamped along with some number and various letters. There is something of significance stamped under the metal bolt thing. It look like WHM or WHD and some numbers, really hard to make out the rest. Any input would be much appreciated.

I believe that to be a converted M1903 scabbard. The maker's name would be about where the metal op-rod sleeve is.

That makes sence. The inspector's initials are very early.

WTG was a Rock Island Arsenal leather inspector. I have to dig out my info to get his full name.

I think it's W.T. Goodrich. He was an RIA leather shop employee, and I've seen the WTG mark on other RIA leather made articles.

    Who was Walter T. Groton?

WTG Walter T. Groton Maj., USAicon Colt M1911 and M1911A1 .45 Pistols 1924-1926, 1928. It was a bit of a reach on my part, but I know some of these guys got around.
