Are Garand gas cylinders marked with a mfg code? Any way to tell if surplus or aftermarket? Thanks, Bob

This is someone elses work - there are different characteristics associated with IHC gas cylinders

For SA and HRA also the stlye of staking of the swivel is an indication as well as the head of the screw on the stacking swivel.

I believe all letter coded gas cylinders are SA

best thing is buy the books (Scott Duff) and read them avoid poyer and reich

Mark, I have not found the pics in your above post to be factual as far as WRA indicators. For instance, the shape of the ledge under the sight base varies considerably on WRA gas cylinders. Also the width of the flat has nothing to do with WRA gas cylinders. Here is a pic of two WRA narrow base cylinders side by side. Note the width of the flats.

Well like I said it was someone else’s work.

In the context originally offered it was to distinguish the Korean gas cylinders from WRA.

It appears correct on at least two points where the flat transitions after the bayonet lug and then wider near the front - there are in your example curved profiles consistent with the example.

But you make an excellent point – there is always production variation.
