Rifle No. 4. Bolts Locking Mk. 2. - one for the armourers
Just opened a box of the above Qty- 10.
Contents are:-
8 without threaded spline circa .270 dia
1 without threaded spline circa .366 dia
1 with threaded spline circa .266 dia
Is this a 'standard contents' if so, why?
My two Nr 4s both have the threaded spine bolts.
How did the non-threaded items drive the safety catch?
Regards
John

Never seen one but they were described in the early EMER's and declared obsolete and subject to an 'A' class modification in the late 40's. It was a wartime expedient
The Mk2 locking bolt wasn't used with the safety catch. The locking bolt on its own just prevents the rifle being fired and as I remember it, will allow the bolt to be lifted but not moved rearwards.

In case you are wondering, here's a Mk.II spindle separated from the locking arm. (Pin sheared)

Note the lack of threads on the large OD.

For future interest sake maybe someone could try one in a rifle and tell us all what happens when lever set to SAFE and
Rifle cocked and fired
rifle fired, bolt lifted
rifle cocked and bolt lifted
rifle half cocked, safety ON and a)fired and b)bolt lifted c) try to cock by hand
Same but safety OFF
and any other features that could occur
