Gotta love it when....
You pull the foreend off a rifle that hasn't been dicked with in any way and find the witness marks that show it was bedded properly by the factory way back then....
In the pics, you will see the corresponding marks I have highlighted. The first pic shows the underside of the receiver with full contact onto the foreend between the butt socket and the recoil lugs, then from about half way along the magazine well, to the front trigger guard screw block. Notice the barrel knox is bedded from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock for the length of the knox.

Pic two debunks a myth that all HT's have floating barrels. I have opened up a few, and am yet to find one that wasn't bedded in this manner, the same as the standard weight barrel service rifle. There is an inch of bedding from 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock for an inch either side of the inner band (naturally omitted from the H barrel), and then for at least the last four inches to the muzzle from 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock... this one has been bedded all the way. I would expect to find the same in any rifle from Lithgow
that hasn't been altered.

Nothing like a bit of good old fashioned debunking! I'll have to save those pics, or at least remember where they can be found.

What about the top handguard?

Really good question, Rastis!.. Wish I had a really good answer. With the standard bedding on a standard barrel, you might see witness marks about the same as the corresponding parts of the foreend. That is about an inch either side of the inner band groove and for at least the last four inches to the muzzle. I didn't take pics of the handguard off this one, but I did note it had marks about an inch at the muzzle.
Just went looking for the pic posted below of the foreend and handguard off my '55FTR Lithgow
. Foreend is much the same as the HT. The handguard looks to only contact at the muzzle as well, and this rifle shoots better than I can.
