RIP Cmd SGT Basil Plumley, US Army
Ret. Command Sergeant Major Basil Plumley has died at age 92. He made all four Army combat airborne jumps in WWII, one in Korea, and fought as Col. Hal Moore's adjutant in the Battle of the Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam. He was a legend in the Airborne. His medals included the Master Combat Parachutist Badge with Gold Star (5 combat jumps), Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and V for Valor, Purple Heart with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal, and many others.
His actions in the Ia Drang Valley were covered in Hal Moore's book, We Were Soldiers Once, and Young and he was played by Sam Elliot in the movie based upon the book.
RIP Sergeant. The best of the best. You've heard the final bugle call.

One of the best books I have ever read. Might I also suggest We are Soldiers Still the follow up book to We Were Soldies Once. CSM Plumley seems so indicitive of the unsung heros of our military.
RIP
