Jungle Carbine buttstock markings
An acquaintance has found the following markings on the side of his no 5's buttstock:
26 10 48
I H L
73
A SQN
Logically, I would think that:
Line 1 would be the date of issue in the unit,
Line 2 , the unit's abbreviation,
Line 3, the weapon's rack number
Line 4, the sub unit.
I haven't been able to find what unit I H L would be associated with. Any ideas?
The SQN has me puzzled. SAS? Cavalry?

Is it deffo I H L or could it be 1 H L or 14L? I cant find a refrence to a IHL or a HL, As you probably know there is a HLI.

There were plenty of Hussar type Regiments in Malaya from 1948 until the place folded in the late 60's and they always use Squadron titles

Here's a pic of the markings:

I did think about the Highlanders, but the initials are in the wrong order... I'm inclined to think cavalry, as Mr. Laidler
suggests.
While researching these markings, I found another no. 5 with very similar markings. Only what I assume is the rack number and the sqn letter differ.
