K98k bayonet frogs

Repro frogs are sold widely on the Net, on sites such as the one below. With the understanding that these are knockoffs, how accurate are they in detail?:

At the Front is a good company. They do the research and there products are as close as possible. I got a USMC uniform from them. Very good quality.

As gsimmons says above, they are a good company. The use of the aluminum rivets and burrs (not commonly available) is a good example of their effort to "do it right".

I noticed that some frogs have the small retaining strap (for want of a better term) and some don't. Was this item unnecessary to retain the bayonet in the frog?

Frogs were made with and without the retaining straps. Personally I have never understood the need for them, the Sg84/98 as used during the Nazi era was well secured in it's scabbard so it isn't required to keep the bayonet from falling out of the scabbard but it does keep the bayonet and scabbard from moving around some. You will see some of the retaining straps removed by cutting on original frogs.

I'm somewhat familiar with the web "Afrika Korps" frogs (the repros, anyway). Is the following an accurate copy of a "tropical" version or just fanciful?:

compare them with the real ones at my site either under frogs or specifically for th e84/98 which shows dozens and all colors of web frogs,

The Variants with the buttoned grip strap. Are know generaly, as cavalry pattern. The strap prevented the sidearm from swinging about on the wearer. Due to extra jolting & movement when mounted on a Horse. (Well, that was the theory,reason for the strap!.....)

Great company, I buy 95% of my Repro stuff here. The owner was a German Re-enactor at one time so you know it's right. The German re-enactors are the most anal guys I've ever met in my experience.
