Current Approx. Value of No 4 Mk1 (T) Sans Scope/Mount

I've been looking at a pretty nice No4 Mk1 (T) sniper and am wondering what the current value of a rifle sans scope is these days ? I have been looking at various source material and prices, especially in the USA seem to be all over the boad... several dealers list the Savage made (TR) rifles which were never issued as a sniper at about $1900.

What would an original, correct (as far as all I have read and my ability to verify all I have read against said rifle) 1944 rifle sans scope and mount be worth? It does have the original wooden case and scope case with it. I'd say it was about 85-90% condition...

Too bad it's missing the mount and scope... the original scope number is stamped on the rifle's wrist behind the receiver.

Be kind... my knowledge of these particular rifles is limited to what I have read.

Well, the current price in the USA for that rifle including transit case and scope tin, AND with original bracket AND non-matching Mk 3 scope would be about $4,700. Thus if you subtract the cost of an original bracket if you can find one (at a guess: $350+) and a Mk 3 scope if you can find one (at a guess: $1400+) then the rig as you describe it would be somewhere approaching $3,000. Does that sound about right, or am I missing something?
First, though, and you'd need to be sure the rifle is genuine - best way is to post the standard pictures here, and let the experts decide.

Last couple or 3 original brackets I saw on epay all went for right around the US $1000 mark, give or take. Can't remember the last time I saw a Mk.III up for grabs.

A while ago when I was looking for a rifle without scope to go with a scope and bracket I'd acquired I approached fultons and their argument was along the lines of "Why should I sell you a scopeless rifle for £1,000 when I can put a bracket and mk1 scope on it and sell it for £2,600+?"

From that I'd suggest that overall it's a slightly more cost effective way of buying a 4t - depending on how much it costs of course! (and also how much you manage to source a scope and bracket for!!!)

A mk1 scope recently sold on ebay for £550 - unusually low these days so bargains (ish) can be had. Mounts have been very expensive of late (genuine ones that is).

Doing it this way can lead to issues of collimation between gun and bracket - but 'all matching' 4ts come with a huge premium, are very rare, and may have been 'made to match' by the unscrupulous.

For those of us with lesser financial resources bringing the different parts together is at least a pathway to owning a 4t - and a genuine mismatch can still shoot very nicely.

There is a Mk 111 No 32 scope with bracket (think its rose brothers) on that auction site.

Mike in Wis.: If I were you (or if I lived in the US) I'd go for the complete No. 4T for sale by Brian Dick. Loose scopes and genuine brackets are going for looney money and, of course, a mismatched bracket may be poorly collimated to your rifle. But to address your question, north of the 49th, a No.4T without scope/ bracket can easily get $1,500 to $2000 or more but I think $3,000 would be unlikely. There might be some bargains in the form of earlier '43 rifles that lack some of the assumed necessary markings and are scaring off buyers but, on the other hand, can you be sure?
