The R is a sub-inspection stamp and does nor indicate a Remington stock. Remington did make grasping groove stocks for their early Remington M1903s, but had an RLB inspection stamp and some sub-inspector symbols forward of the trigger guard.

Thank you for your reply, Rick, My Stock has no visible Cartouche and other than the circle p proof stamp, and 1650 on butt stock, I picked up this Rock Island a couple months ago, Although it is nowhere near as nice as some of yours I,ve seen, After replacing a few worn out parts and a good cleaning, it has turned out to be a great shooter, I love this gun. It has a 6-30 SA Barrel, first time I shot it , I tried single loading with a full mag, cutoff off and it would not chamber the round, so I suspected I was because of having a 03a3 Bolt, ordered a 03 extractor w/ hole and it turns out the a3 extractor was wider than the 03 extractor, changed it out and problem solved works smooth as glass. looking for period 03 bolt that wont break the bank. there where a couple other problems I have Fixed, now want to try a high power match, to see if this old guy and older weapon can make a respectable show of it, Thanks for your post, Lou

Just to continue a little on stock markings, the only sub-inspection stamps in the cutoff relief area of the stock that denotes a manufacture is the "S" that appeared on Springfield Type C and Scant stocks and "K" for "Keystone", which made M1903 replacement Type C and Scant stocks. There was supposedly markings for Milton-Bradley and American Bowling and Billiard, but I've never seen any displayed.

My RIA has a SA 7-33 barrel.
It is in a C stock which is not probably the original scant, but was changed out during WWII,
or maybe before it went to Greece before being returned and ended up at CMP
where I purchased it.
The stock has some letters on it, as well as the part no. down by the rear sling.

What are the letters you mention? The Type C stock is a replacement. The original stock would not have been a Scant (semi-pistol grip) but a "straight" stock with grasping grooves.
