Ever run an SRS check on it? That color of finish often appears on USMC rifles... usually they have a Hatcher Hole on the left side of the receiver, but with an original barrel that wouldnt be the case on that rifle. Any more pictures?

USMC rifles iv had and seen have had a light grey finish, no hatcher hole on the left side, doubtful USMC

From the serial number alone, there is a very good chance that is a USMC rifle. Can you post more pictures? Stock in particular.

Sorry, no more pictures. This one was taken by a friend of mine at the show. He said the stock had two cartouches: OHA1918 and FLW/RIA

FLW/RIA was, IIRC, a overhaul inspection stamp from the early 1920s. The other may be the original inspection stamp when the rifle was manufactured.
