Colorized image probably originally published in post card format. These hard charging posed images intended for the morale of the civilians. Soldiers in the image wearing cotton field uniforms known as "khakis" that was rarely worn in the field after 1941. The person that colorized the image took "artistic license" and colored the uniforms similar to olive green, which in a sense updated the image.

In this image the soldier is similarly attired in cotton field uniform, M1917A1 helmet, bayonet M1905 in scabbard M1905 modified. Typical training camp snapshot image intended to memorialize service, and for home front consumption. Building in background under construction, the exterior siding yet to be applied. Unaccredited unofficial circa 1941.

Many just stayed that way, no siding needed, especially in Southern posts.

I just noticed the smoke from the "explosion" behind one soldier, in front of the other. Obviously "Photoshop" was not available in '41. When a teen I did similar things in my darkroom, no more convincing.
