Remington 03A3 "Tanker"
I saw this on Gunbroker
Remington 03A3 "Tanker" : Bolt Action Rifles at GunBroker.com
Old thread.. same rifle? .. 03A3 on GB
Then I was bouncing around the web and found this thread. It seems to be the same rifle. It has the "documents". I was just curious and hoping to give others a heads up. I had been unable to find any info on the web leading me to believe it was a plausible scenario.

]GB Auction for Remington 03A3 "Tanker"
Characteristics for Item # 401586563
Manufacturer: Remington
Model: 03A3 Tanker
Caliber: .30-06
Barrel Length: 19 inch
Description for Item # 401586563
Remington 03A3 “ Tanker ” with the original arsenal paperwork This 03a3 is serial # 4014256 and was made in 1943. It has a 19” barrel with a Lyman front sight. It is in overall new condition. I bought it many years ago in the estate sale of the original purchaser identified in the arsenal paperwork dated 11/28/1960. I have never fired it. The wood is excellent with a boxed O.G. stamped on the left side; tiny crossed X (cannons?) behind the trigger; faint shield on the wrist and S.S. stamped into the wood next to the butt plate. The oiler is in the stock. It also has an original web sling. The framed original paperwork will go with the rifle. C&R ok.

Thank you Badger. It does appear to be the same rifle. The "documents" are very interesting. Is is possible this is the rifle that was bought from the military and then simply cut down by the civilian owner?
On top of that, this is an interesting read http://www.athensgunsmith.com/Articl...ticle11-10.pdf

Pretty funny story in the details. Neat how he got the pics wrong too. Someone got rooked in though. The front wood wasn't even square at the band. Band was out of whack for a bayonet...funny story...
