Pattern 1888 Mk.1 (three Rivet) sighted on Ebay
FYI,
There is currently a Pattern 1888 mk.1 (three rivet) on Ebay. Just do a search for 'British
bayonets' or even 'Pattern 1888' and it should come up in your search. It has a day or so left on the auction time. Plenty of time to look it over and decide. The bidding is very conservative at the moment. Something to think about.
Moderator Edit: This is not an easter egg hunt site. If anyone is going to reference a sale or auction, then please provide everyone else with a link to it, or it's a waste of time. I just spent 10 minutes trying to find this auction and add the link here, without any luck. It's 10 minutes gone from my life.
As far as the concerns from others about posting links to auctions and sales on other sites, for the benefit of all members, it's just fine. This is not a clique here and we would appreciate it if members would refrain from making up their own rules. First and foremost, we are a research site and helping ALL members to be aware of public sales or auctions, including the ultimate prices items sell for, is just another part of that research and authentication process. Our approach to this policy has been the same for over 8 years and we would like it to remain that way.
Thank you ...

Please dont do that, there maybe people hoping to pick up a bargain adn now more people know its there. In some ways it is nice to know of such things, but if its a sleeper and someone spills the beans then it can ruin someones luck. Maybe not so bad in this case, but telling everyone its cheap may send dealers in to buy and resell higher, or just people looking to turn a fast buck rather than add it to their collection. and if it is your item that is very bad of you. Just my thoughts

This is not my item! I understand, and will keep all future items of this sort to myself. Thanks for letting me know.

FWIW,
Well I know this is after the auction, I will post the link as a courtesy. I was attempting to be helpful, apparently I inadvertently stepped on a few toe's so to put it politely.
British P1888 Mark 1 Lee Metford First Type Bayonet 178 | eBay
I am not attempting to spam the site, or solicit sales, by this. There is already a section of the forum set up for selling members items. Old-Smithy you do make some good points too. Thanks to the moderator for clearing up my misunderstanding further.

No problem ... thanks for posting the link ..
I agree that Old-Smithy's point is well taken and we used to follow that practice in the early day of this web site, however, in this era of the Internet being as prolific as it is, keeping secrets about auctions for the benefit of a just a few is impossible.
Regards,
Doug

I have to agree with Doug, I believe the price reflected the condition of the bayonet.

Posting after is worth doing on interesting pieces as it shows others, but I must admit to only doing it on stuff I already have. I have info on a lot of bits that is not on my site but picked up from other places, not until I have added the piece do I often put the information out there. Maybe a bit selfish but it is often the only way i can build my collection and add new stuff for visitors to learn. I am still after at least two scabbard patterns for the 88 and 03 and would love to get a better condition 02
