Story and pictures of M1 Garand National Match serial #3414047

Hello All; I am a collector of Military firearms and I recently got the bug for a Springfield Armory M1 Garand National Match rifle. Not being an expert on the NM I started searching for information so I would be able to determine originality and also have a feel for value to be confident enough to make the decision to buy. In my search I found a thread on the CMP forum and "JoeW2111" (aka Joe W here) had responded to a request for help in authenticating a National Match Rifle. His reply was very detailed and it was obvious he knew the NM. I had two rifles on my short list and I contacted Joe for help. I got one hell of an education and ultimately was steered clear of one rifle and was able to authenticate the other. The seller was a fellow OGCA member and we met at the meeting last weekend in Wilmington Ohio to complete the deal face to face. Here is what I purchased.

A new in the box Type 2 NM built in 1960 that was unused and returned to SA in 1963 for upgrades. SA shipped it back to the Erie Army Depot where it remained until sold by the DCM. I will be happy to answer any questions and provide any additional pictures requested. Not that it means anything but this rifle is only 26 numbers away from the first M1 Garand I purchased from the CMP back in 1999. Thanks again Joe.

I agree, no regrets here. I had to step up on the money but I think these things will continue to become more valuable as collectors understand how rare they are especially with documentation. I know you referenced Bob and Dave several times while you were helping me and yes I appreciate their generosity as well. Thanks Bob and Dave!
