That mangled foresight was indeed recycled from a K98k (note the groove for the sight hood).

looks like i have the first type, got the wood fit. just need a frount sight but only place to put it is rough spot on barrel see 5th picture looks like it has a saw used on it.

This guy in France is selling some: GUIDON DE MAS 36 (2237054)
Try to contact him, maybe he will ship to the U.S.? (guidon means frontsight) Or you can ask a gunsmith to make one, it doesn't matter if it isn't an original one, you can't see it anyway.

thank you for the help looks like it is a dove tailed frount sight not to bad or to hard to install.

Yes, it is a 2nd type, I think chances on finding a 1st type are slim.
