Repackaged Original WWII "IS" Oilers?
Saw these listed on eBay today. Looks like a pretty good deal. Are the numbers on the packages US or Greek? The oilers look genuine to me. I guess I don't really know how long International Silver continued to make these, but always figured they were a WWII item only. Thanks! - Bob

Reason: Had been looking at Dutch items just prior and mistakenly typed "Dutch" instead of "Greek".

They look like a US repack from Feb 1974 to me Bob, but I'm no expert on them.
Keep in mind they come from Greece and the shipping is $5.00. Still not too bad, especially if they're really new.

I think they are refinished in phosphate but I am not the oiler guru.

This one will get a good laugh, says WW2. Don't believe what you read.

I think you guys are right. They've probably been refinished, had the the leather washers changed to neoprene, and then repacked. I don't know why the listing Jim linked to used WW2 in their title. I believe they are an OK outfit, and show farther down that the oilers are "Excellent quality current production." The "WW2" in the title would help attract potential customers, and maybe a few wouldn't read the fine print below. Good return policy, but probably not many would send them back. Doesn't look much like a real one though - probably not enough to use the term "WWII style" which I often see. - Bob

Bob,
This is an Airborne veteran trying to run a business. I applaud that.
I'm sure using WW2, three times before printing the disclaimer in the text, is just to attract attention to their sales. They are also offering type one pouch/sling/oiler combos for $29. Muzzle covers, cases, etc with the same approach. And the marking used on the pouch and muzzle cover would alert most buyers. He is not trying to pass off a maker that was a WW2 contractor using an obviously made up maker name. I give him a lot of credit for that. He also offers a 30 return that few offer. But I had to go through many of their sales to find an original item, a 50's type 2 pouch. Even a Japanese
helmet only says authentic leather liner.
My concern is a buyer, new or older carbine owner, see's the buy it now on their screen when it opens. You have to scroll down to see the disclaimer. Sure, that falls on the buyer to notice, but how many get into a rush and don't. One buyer posted a negative feedback saying the listing said 1942 and was made in India. Shows my concern, not everyone reads the fine print.
He must be doing it right because he has 22,666 feedbacks. That's a huge number.
Jim

If one reads the description it does say that it is a WW2 type of current production. While it is marked II it's not even close to an original let alone the machining on the top of the cap.

He doesn't exactly use the word type. And as I mentioned he does say it's a current production piece. Just further into the text. That doesn't show up in the opening screen. Anyone on this forum would know it's not original, but others could be mislead.
Excellent quality current production M1
Carbine metal oiler. Marked II for Inland as you can see in the picture.
