First Garand. Impulse buy - how did I do?

Got tired of waiting for a deal on Gunbroker that fit my wallet range. Considered CMP also. Found someone locally with one that was supposed to be CMP that was in my price range of about $800.

I got impulsive and bought it at $700. Came with 100 rounds of 30-06 and 10 en-bloc clips and some fancy after market gas adjustable tube cap.

What I think I know:
Has a Greek or Danish stock. Wish it matched color wise a little better but price was good (I think).
The CMP cert he had didn't match the gun but from my basic understanding all else seemed right, so no way to know if its really CMP.
Barrel pretty clean.
No P cartouche but serial on stock.

Think I did OK but would like you good people to be the judge of that Would also like to know of anything I could easily replace to improve it.

The stock is Danish. Beech wood I believe. I think you did well especially with 100 rounds of 30-06 thrown in. Enjoy

Yes, that coin was OK. Way better than I could have done around here anywayzzzz. The barrel looks good so it'll be a good shooter I'd think. The adjustable gas cylinder lock screw relief valve is good for strange ammo and that with big bullets. Otherwise if you shoot CMP ammo, and normal part is fine. Looks like an early narrow front sight on that one. A bit of everything for parts too. Yes, Danish restocking in Beech, if you sand or blanch it you'll have white wood that won't take a stain for the life of you so maybe leave it as is. The rest looks good enough to take a spot in my rack so take it out and show us results later. Well done.

Based on the "poor man's muzzle wear gauge", your bore is close to new; that's a big plus.

If you phone CMP, they will tell you if they sold it; if so, they will send you a document showing that for $5.

CMP will do a S/N check for $25. All they will tell you is if it did or did not ever go through DCM or CMP. You'll get no certs, to whom or when sold, etc., etc. All they will tell you (again) is if it ever was or was not a dcm or cmp gun.

I'd say you did very well with the ammo thrown in on the deal. Can't find one for that price in any shop around my neck of the woods.
