He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose
There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.
If'n it was me , I'd have that bolt back and the safety rotated to the lever pointing down.

Unless you were posed and there was nothing out there...

Notice he has an M1slung behind him. If it is posed, maybe that's his real weapon and the Thompson is borrowed for the shot. On the other hand, I had a neighbor who carried both on Iwo... the Thompson went up the hill with him as his squad raised the first small flag. Ted Folari was still up there guarding the perimeter when the second, famous flag was raised behind him.
Real men measure once and cut.
I was waiting for some one to notice the second garand :-).
Sling connection looks odd.

But...where's the buttstock for the Thompson? I've had my share of T guns and I think that one's had the butt removed. You'd be able to see the toe of the butt under his arm.

Ted Folari's had no stock either... and no finish left.
Real men measure once and cut.
Not the first I've seen like that.

Looks like a 1903 with a Kerr sling.
