TV programme 'weapon hunters'

Saw a US TV programme called 'Weapon hunters' last evening. All about sniper rifles including the various suspects. I was busy watching paint dry so couldn't take it all in in-depth but the last part, where the expert range tested and selected the Garand as the best sniper rifle of all(?) struck me as a tad flawed. Especially the testing methodology. I contacted my friend the trials manager at Warminster ITDU and suggest he use the same quick method when they do their next weapon trials. Could save a LOT of money, time and effort.

I haven't heard of that series, but by your assessment it seems to follow in line with the typical "junk food" style reality / pseudo documentary that is becoming all to common. By contrast there are some youtube based productions that are quite surprising in their content and quality.

A Garand based (M1D?) rifle as the top sniper is probably the conclusion of either enthusiastic patriotism or "it was the best we could scrape up for our show within the confines of our filming dates".

Of course in reality the best of any sort of weapon is the one that is in the hands of the soldier when it needs to be used, but aside, technical discussion is always interesting.

That show is laughable. Couldn't even get through a single episode because the host is a tool.

I never cared for TV. We didn’t watch it when we had one. It just took up space in the house. So I dumped in the trash 16 years ago. We haven’t missed it.

Peter, I saw the series and that episode some time ago. Three things drove his assessment which was purely personal opinion: 1, he couldn't handle the recoil of any of bolt action rifles; 2, he never re-acquired the same shooting position (cheek weld, grip, etc.) after cocking the bolt actions each time; and 3, the gas operated Garand was softer recoiling and allowed him to maintain the same position.

The bloke's claim to fame is that he is a fencer for what that is worth.

A fencer......... what sort. Fencing with swords, putting them up around gardens or disposing of stolen goods! Just my joke, playing on words........

I think they should utilize appropriate personnel for shows like this but I gather the chaps that have done it for real have probably had enough of weapons, like I said in my previous posts on this presenters style and his accuracy in shooting I would feel pretty safe the way he was trying to put rounds onto a target. At least Hickock45 has been a professional shooter and gives a warts and all view others like Max Michelle, Jerry Miculeck are what they are professional champions.

Just finished watching the Hot Shot series Jerry's 21 year straight reign as world revolver champion is testament to his shooting ability as are the others in the series well worth the watch.
