Turkish Gew88
I found a Gew88 Turkish
that a guy is selling, while talking to him he has told me and sent me pictures of screws missing and a odd bump in the stock. The stock also looks refinished as I haven't found any stocks that have quite looked like this one. After talking he said he just wants to get rid of it, it's taking space and will let it go for $100, he originally wanted $200. I was also worried about it because of some weird grind in the chamber. Should I stay clear of this rifle or not? Is it original or how much would it take to get it back to original? Is it worth it or not? I haven't found a stock and the screws that are missing are $30 total. Thanks.

No, it's no longer in it's original Gew 88 configuration. It was rebuilt/upgraded in 1935 at Ankara. Only original Gew 88 parts left are the receiver, bolt and magazine. All others were replaced during rebuild.
Overall condition looks pretty rough, it's missing parts and the reciever damage could make it unsafe to shoot. I'd pass on it. There's better examples to be had.

I found a nicer one on backpage in phoenix for 150. No finish left but shoots straight

Did anyone else notice that the N of ANKARA is back-to-front. Not upside down - but back-to-front!
This is the sort of thing one finds on Khyber Pass Specials.
The grinding on the front left of the receiver wall looks as if someone wanted to grind out an imitation of the notch that was made at one stage so that the longer "Spitzer"-bullet loaded cartridges would fit in Gew.88 receivers. Said person made a right botch of it as well. All that is missing is the personal stamp of Ali Bubba!
Such features make it superfluous to worry about anything else. It is scrap, and possibly dangerous scrap as well.
