Based at looking at one of my rifles, I believe this is a WZ29 in a KAR98a stock. Could it be a wartime expedient?

You have a Czech
98 there. I think these were made for Border Patrol/Police. Used in Czech and sold on. Spain? Not sure. Springfield Sporters had a pile years back and broke them up for parts. Is the serial number on the bottom of the receiver?

99% sure it's Polish but willing to listen to why you think it's Czech
. Serial number on left side of receiver. Polish circle Z on right side.

The encircled "Z" on the receiver denotes Czech
manufacture, not Polish. --Jim

The Poles also used the circle z as a proof mark. I own a Polish WZ29 sold to Spain that has also been scrubbed of all major markings with the exception of the circle z. The front sight is a dead giveaway that this is a Polish rifle. The only other rifles with this type of sight are the German
KAR98a's which is where the Poles got it from when they took over the tooling.
