Complete IWS Kit for the L1A1 Rifle (and others)
I was offered this complete kit some while ago and given its condition I would have been silly to refuse it. It came with three '93 dated batteries and I have since purchased two more 2002 dated ones. I have been told that they last longer if kept cold so they all now live in the fridge (thank heavens for a very understing wife).
I understand that the scope has passed through Peters hands at some time in the past which probably explains its very good condition, it is dated 1972 and serial numbered SS9035.
I have mounted it onto my straight pull just to get a feel of the beast and beast is about the right way to describe it as is so heavy but I must admit it does work very well. In its day it was probably cutting edge but now with everything so small and light it is something of a dinasour but I am very pleased to be able to have it in the collection.

I also have one like this. But, the L42 & M16
Mounts are missing!

L42 mounts aren't contained within the IWS kit. It is kept in the L42 chest. The AR15/M16
was not issued with the kit either - UNLESS it was a request from the recipient unit who had a need for the bracket. Such as Marines etc etc who had AR15's/M16's. When it wasn't issued with the kit, the CES was amended so that storemen and others on the QM's staff didn't go chasing around for one. They are quite uncommon. The kit shown above is the norm, as issued.
There's a reason who original L42 brackets were taken out of the kits before disposal and why originals are quite rare/scarce.

Looks good Paul, just so happens I got two box's delivered today, for anyone interested they are on ebay at £20 a pop, postage is a little over half but they will do a deal on two, they are brand new in the original cardboard box......
its always a catch 22....... you have the bits but no box or a box and no bits, thought I'd start off with the box and store the other one until someone is desperate for one.

I wasn't aware of the Amendment Peter, so that's good to Hear! LOL I guess I now DO have a complete IWS Kit upto C.E.S Standard!

The 'green book' or CES that came with the individual kit had the AR15 mount lined through and stamped or endorsed by the packer at Donnington at issue. That part had a distinct part number too as I recall........ Only available in the 'restricted stores handbook' - that only the Tech QM had access to. Probably a CD now!
